Communication means
Jan. 26th, 2006 01:47 pmCommunication means can be divided into two groups:
1. Interrupt based: door bell, phone, IPhones (like skype)
I.e. you have to drop everything and answer.
2. Non-interrupting: e-mail, regular mail.
I.e. you can delay the reply. I like the 2-nd type much more since you can respond when it is convenient to you.
New communication programs like Skype make things even worse. When I want to speak with person Z
I do not know how to make so that all persons A,B,C..X,Y will not immediately call me seing that I am on-line. On the other hand you do not want to offend other people by choosing "I do not allow you to see my on-line status". A partial solution is an "invisible" status. But then you need to be invisible not to all but only to some people and not all the time.
