Interesting article about Vermeer's use of lens and camera obscura. I think that was known quite for some time already (His teacher Carel Fabricius also possibly used it, which is seen in one of his "curved" paintings.)

Curious connection between Vermeer and Leeuwenhoek, the famous microscopist, born the same year (1632) in Delft.
(BTW I wonder if we can see rotifers in our toy microscope...).
