So CIA was sponsoring American expressionist painting to fight the Cold War claims that America was a cultural desert, and social realism trend (which was popular among American painters in the 30-s). This made paint dripping "artists" like Pollock famous and selling well.
This sounds too crazy to be believable, too close to Andersen's "Emperor's New Clothes" story. I wonder when this "modern art" bubble will explode.
